What Is Boudoir Photography? (And Do You Have to Be Nude?)
So... what IS boudoir photography?
Boudoir is a private photo session that's all about YOU. Your body, your confidence, your vibe. Think lingerie, cozy sweaters, sheets, sexy sets and a whole lot of hype.
The word "boudoir" is French for a woman's private dressing room. That's the whole idea. It's intimate, it's just for you, and it's 100% on your terms.
Hi, I'm Lexi! I'm a boudoir photographer in Plainfield, about 30 minutes west of downtown Indianapolis. I started this with one dream: to help people feel more confident. Let me answer the questions I get asked the most.
Who is boudoir for?
Anyone 18+ who wants to see themselves the way the people who love them do. Real talk: you do NOT need to be a model, a certain size or "ready."
My clients come in for all kinds of reasons:
- A gift for a partner (hello, bridal boudoir)
- A milestone birthday
- A comeback after a hard season
- Celebrating a pregnancy with maternity boudoir
- Or just because. That's my favorite one.

Do you have to be nude for boudoir?
Nope! This is the #1 thing people Google, so let me say it loud: you choose your comfort level.
- Lingerie. Bralettes, bodysuits, thigh highs. The classic.
- Covered and cozy. An oversized sweater, a button-down or a sheet.
- Implied nude. You're bare, but a sheet, your hands or a pose covers the details.
- Fully nude. Totally your call, and totally welcome.
You can mix and match, and you can change your mind mid-session. Every answer is the right one.
Is boudoir private?
Yes, babe. It's just you, me and your glam artist. No guests, ever. So many of my clients choose to stay anonymous, and I respect that. This is your safe space.
Your gallery comes as its own little app on your phone, so your photos stay separate from your camera roll. No surprise pics when you're showing your mom vacation photos. 😅
What happens at a boudoir session?
- Glam. Professional hair and makeup is included, done right in my studio.
- Outfits. Bring your own pieces, or shop my client closet (XS–6XL). Need ideas? Here's my boudoir outfit guide.
- Sets. I have 30+ sets, from my dark academia library to the neon shower and pink rock room.
- Posing. You don't need to know how to pose. I coach every single one and hype you up the whole time.
- Your reveal. About 8–10 weeks later, we look at your images together at a virtual reveal.

Is boudoir worth it?
I've done more than five boudoir shoots of my OWN. I know the nerves. I also know the feeling of seeing your photos and thinking, "Wait. That's ME?!"
